Dorman travelled to Iraq in 2006 as Britain's officially accredited war artist. Travelling across Southern Iraq, Dorman was embedded with several divisional units, including The Green Jackets (Basra Palace), the Ghurkas (Shaibah) and the Queen’s Royal Lancers (Maysaan).
