It's that happy time of the year again, and as we gather together and sing our traditional carols, the studio has been abuzz with excitment.
Completed pieces, such as these charcoal portraits, have gone to their respective homes in time for Christmas, whilst work has begun on several new and exciting commissions for 2019!
One of the great privileges of my profession is to meet truly extraordinary people, and to venture into the unknown together as I paint their portraits. In this case, it has been an honour and inspiration to paint Professor Neena Modi for the Royal College. As President, she is one of only three women to have ever held that post.
Work for this life size canvas started with small sketches in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Since then I have enjoyed several wonderful sittings (with sitters both human and canine!) and the portrait now rests in the hands of my framer, Philip Elletson. We shall miss such a grand presence in the studio, but am thrilled it has been so well received by the family.
