I am thrilled to announce that my talk 'The Possibility of Light - An Artist's Journey, from Iraq and Afghanistan to Syria' at Freemasons' Hall last month raised over £5,000 for two amazing charities Beyond Conflict & Age Unlimited.
"Thank you for last night's moving and very inspiring talk. I think many of us were emotional about the things you said. You spoke so well about the need for all of us to connect to the stories of those on the other side of the world and put ourselves in their position. As someone who is of Indian-origin, African-born and who was raised in the UK, this resonated deeply. As you said, the plight of these refugees could have been the fate of any one of us."
- Edna Fernandes, Co Founder/ Trustee of Beyond Conflict
Age Unlimited have since let me know that some of the funds raised has gone to support workshops a project they have been running: art workshops for people with dementia and their carers - and they have proved such a success that three London boroughs and one art gallery have now taken over the sponsorship in their own areas. Age Unlimited workshops this summer are in the Saatchi Gallery, the Chelsea Physic Garden and Fulham Palace; they are entirely free and last for two hours.
