“It’s getting dark again,
A closer dark
That’s harder to shake off
And I think of the light keepers”
(The Lights, Miriam Nash)
These were the opening words of my talk at the British Embassy Paris. It was a privilege to speak in such historic and elegant surrounds, and to such a great audience.
"Your work was very moving, but so too were your words – a number of my colleagues told me that they wished they could have filmed the talk as it had taken them on a real journey. The work that you do is so important for ensuring that the past is still visible in the present, even when the physical reminders are left in ruins."
- Emily Partington, British Embassy Paris
"Thank you and how much i enjoyed your talk last evening. I am ex-Guards with some experience of operations but never an engagement with a war artist. I asked you about the process of capturing the image... You spoke so well and so movingly; as soldiers we do get hardened but some images never fail to have an impact as you explained so well."
